I live in New Brighton near SS Peter & Pauls church and almost every night there is a background noise that keeps my family awake at night.
This noise sounds like a large vehicle with its engine running parked up outside the window.
We have rasied this issue with the Enviromental Health dept in the town hall and they actually know about it - because they approved it.
The noise is apparently coming from Liverpool from a scrap processing plant and although they have been asked to limit their operations such as, do not drop the scrap from height, the backgrond noise of general operations is still enough to be disturbing in the dead of night.
Is there anyone else in the New Brighton area also experiencing this noise and has it kept them awake also?

Thanks for the info that it is probably Nortons.
This company seems to have won many business awards, so I guess that I would not have much of a chance in asking them to stop processing say from the hours of 22:00 - 08:00 - especially in these recession hit times.
However I am wondering is there any way (other than appealing to their generosity) that I could get funding to have secondary glazing fitted to create a sound barrier.
I already have good double glazing but I have researched into secondary glazing that can be designed to eleiminate frequency ranges - I figure that it probably is not cheap.
If I was to be means tested I would not pass any usual needy group grant - but I do not see why I should have to pay when it would seem that this is definately noise pollution at unsociable hours.
Can anyone off any practical and reasonal solutions to my, and others, dilema?
