Mayoral Elections or Petition

Postby Hugo »

The article on page 17 Dec 9th 2009, Would give the impression that the electorate of Wirral are not interested in a Mayoral Election, maybe because the choices available are not what is required, I would like an election for a Mayor, chosen by the people and with full executive powers to run a council of about 20 Main Elected Councillors Board Members.
This Board of Councillors who have the best interests of the Wirral electorate uppermost in their decision making, and not those who follow the Party Political Whips.
This Elected Main Council Board would also have the powers to remove unelected council employees that have already proven to be working not in the best intentions of the ratepayers, plus regulate the pay and conditions and numbers of all council employees, in particular the highly paid so called executives we have at present.
As most of the main council services are now in the hands of private commercial companies we do not need highly paid administrators with little or no commercial acumen, hiring expensive consultants to make the decisions without the consent of the electorate as we have at present.
The Whole population of the Wirral could quite easily be divided into 6 major districts, each district of about 500.000 people, elect a maximum of 3 independent peoples representatives, preferably those with business acumen who show a dedication to improving the whole status of the Wirral in terms of Commercial Employment, Education, Environment, and Community Facilities, plus Community Services, and Leisure Amenities just as the vast majority of people would want.
Take Party Politics out of Local Government for true success.
Any other so-called council or committee representatives thought to be required by Party Political Systems would need to be totally financed by the Political Parties via their own membership and not by the ratepayers, such body could then present to the Main Elected Council Board, schemes, projects, ideas, and suggestions thought viable.
The abolishment of the present Wirral Council Systems for a new method of local government, ,as outlined would mean a saving of over I million pounds annually to the ratepayers, plus would lead to a host of investors willing to bring investment and success to the Wirral with immediate effect.
