Is Woodchurch the intended home for Tranmere new acadamy?

Postby 1ofmany »

Is Woodchurch the intended home for Tranmere Rovers new youth acadamy. We believe that a deal has been struck between Alan Stennard and Peter Johnson to sell off their present training ground at Inngleborough to a housing development company and intend then to take over the running track and surrounding community playing fields in Woodchurch. This field and running track area are the only designated playing area's the children of Woodchurch have left. We need to keep and resurface this track for the community not for some sickly football club going through its last death throws, how soon before we see Tranmere up on ebay for sale again with these fields thrown in for good measure?

I couldn't agree more with this statement and with 1ofmany. I have heard the very same information, the area in and around the Woodchurch leisure facilities MUST remain the use of the Woodchurch community and residents and not get sold to a football club who has a habit of purchasing land and then selling it after a few years for profit. The area that has been targeted (allegedly) is the only area for my kid’s football club to play and to see that taken away from them would be devastating not only for the club but also for the kids themselves. Maybe Tranmere Rovers should save their money to help bring in some new talent to the club that will allow them to achieve something in the future rather than a new sparkly training ground.

Woodchurch running track

Postby 1ofmany »

What will Tranmere do with the current running track if they gained ownership? turn it all over for football pitches, put a fence around it and then charge the local community to use it? didn't this happen in Bidston tennis courts before it was sold off now look at the place its an absolute tip, what the annoying thing about all of this is Tranmere and the council hiding its plans from the Woodchurch community till the dreaded dead is done.

If you want an answer to this question ask Wirral Council a Freedom of information question at www.whatdotheyknow.com. It is very simple to use the site and your questions, answers and very often negative replies from Wirral are all automatically recorded and monitored by the site

Yes 1ofmany, I get e.mails from the "whatdotheyknow.com site of any new questions or updates posted to the site concerning Wirral Borough Clouncil so I did notice that you had asked the question.
Just be aware that Wirral are particularly good at fobbing people off using a number of tactics if they do not want to answer the question but I will keep in touch with your question.
Glad to be of help and just to re-itterate for any other members of the public who want to ask FOI questions, www.whatdotheyknow.com is a web site where you can post your question (to any organisation falling under the FOI legislation)and receive updates as to answers or even reminders that the authority being asked the question have gone over their 20 day allowed limit. Far easier to do than write via snail mail.

Have you read about the lead sponsor for the proposed new academy? The Times Educational Supplement says he was involved in a price-fixing scandal. Apparently he was chosen for his business acumen! A sign of the awful times in which we live. Read the story here: http://www.tes.co.uk/article.aspx?storycode=6020931
