I am originally from Skem moved to the South 26 years ago and now wish to return to be near family and friends. Does anyone have any idea how long the waiting list is for a flat? Spoke to housing people who were not overly helpful to be honest.

It depends what size flat you're after and in what part of Skem. If you're willing to take a bedsit in Digmoor or Tanhouse then you'd probably get something fairly quickly.

If you want Old Skem or Ashurst then you've probably got no chance.

Be warned, many of the ground floor flats have damp problems and suffer problems from juvenile nuisance. Make sure you view it first, look for mould on the walls and broken windows in the immediate area.

Don't go there, Skem as a town is a Chav ridden dump. It slowly grinds you down over the years.

I've just escaped to Southport and I feel 10 times better. You can get a private bedsit in Southport for not much more than a WLDC flat in Skem, live in a nice town and still be near your relatives. (via an Arriva 375 bus every half hour).

I would not wish a flat in Skem on my worst enemy.
