Some more info:

[i]The station will be broadcasting 24 hours a day, seven days a week on 87.7 FM (just below Radio 2), until midnight on August 28, and intends to cater for all tastes.

The licence permits the broadcast of a wide range of music including Pop, Rock, Jazz, Classical, Country and Folk. Programmes will include local and national current affairs with particular reference to the local community, discussions, interviews with local celebrities and artists. Sports reports will also be aired, with particular accent on local events.

The station is also considering some dual language programmes to include the Polish members of the local community.

Studio technician, Dave Hunter, commented: “Preparations are going well and I am excited for the launch of the station on August 1.

“The station will be very a local project and I want to get local residents involved in the everyday running of the station, whether through ideas for programmes or inviting them to the station to have a go at presenting.

“We will be operating from a custom built portable cabin in Greenhill Community Resource Centre. After our 28 day licence is up the space will used as a teaching aid for media studies.â€

What happened?

It's now 10pm on Sat 1st August and there is no radio station. :?:

Update: Mon August 3rd. I cycled past Greenbank Community centre this morning and there was no sign of a portakabin or any other activity so it looks like it's not happening.

Manor Community Radio station launch held up by money shorta

Postby wavydavy »

[i]THE launch of a new Skelmersdale radio station has been delayed due to financial difficulties.

Manor Community Radio 87.7FM was due to start transmitting on August 1, running for 28 days, but this has been pushed back as a result of limited finances.

Despite the setback, station organisers have said that as soon as funds are available Manor Community Radio will take to the airwaves.

Studio technician, Dave Hunter, said: “Financial problems have delayed the launch of Manor Community Radio. But the licence is still in force and once the finances are in place the station will transmit.

“Running a radio station is not cheap and we are continuing to look for sponsors and advertisers to support the station.

“We are all optimistic that we will be ready to launch very soon.â€
